Having battled with cancer for approximately 8 years, may Mr Oscar de la Renta’s beautiful soul rest in peace. I am fortunate enough to have lived at the same time as such a legend. Mr de la Renta whose career began as early as the 1950s, was a true artist indeed. He went from studying art to making master pieces in the fashion industry. Yet he was never one to blow his own trumpet, in fact he once said that if one was to ask what Oscar de la Renta was, one could simple reply ‘It’s a pretty dress.’ His work was not only seen on Hollywood stars but also on a few first ladies. When designing his clothes, Oscar de la Renta had women’s interests at heart, he sought to make clothes that were most flattering to women’s bodies. He had an eye for colour, which was a reflection of his energy. This can be seen in his last collection, the 2015 Spring Collection.
